The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Delta State has stated that 465,317 permanent voter cards, PVCs, are currently lying uncollected at its office.

Acting INEC Chairman in the state, Mr Felix Enabor, who disclosed this to newsmen in Asaba on Friday, stated that the unclaimed PVCs had been a source of worry to the commission, adding that 49 political parties are participating in the forthcoming elections in Delta State.

His words: “We at the Commission hereby assure all contestants of our neutrality and we promise that it will be level playing field. INEC will give enabling environment for all the contestants to prove who they are.”

Disclosing that the collection of the processed PVCs was ongoing, Enabor said that the statistics for the collection has not been encouraging in Delta State.

He revealed that the number of PVCs not yet collected is 465,317 and enjoined those who have not collected to hurry up before the elections to enable them exercise their right by voting for their preferred candidates.

Harping on the need for peace during the elections, the INEC official reassured political parties in the state of the commission’s readiness to create a level playground before, during and after the elections.

He said, “INEC has a total number of 2,823,161 persons registered by the commission in the state,” adding that their PVCs were long printed.

Enabor called on the electorate to abide by the rules of voting to avoid problems that may jeopardise the contestants’ chances.
